Active Albir staff travel often between Alicante Elche ALC Airport and Costa Blanca North. We found that the cheapest, but longest trip is by taking the tram to Alicante and then a shuttle bus to the airport. Our staff is located in Albir. We usually choose between:

  • The tram from Albir to Benidorm Intermodal (Bus Station) and the ALSA bus direct to the airport. Same in reverse. This is our cheapest acceptable way but there can be a long wait (40-45 minutes) before the bus leaves for the airport or before the tram leaves Intermodal to Albir & Altea.
  • Beniconnect’s Express service is definitely the fastest mid-price solution when traveling from Albir or Altea. It costs a few Euros more, but worth not making 10-15 stops along the way.
  • Private Transfer is good when you have 4 or more traveling together. It can actually be cheaper than a shuttle bus!

Choosing between the above depends on the time of your flight. We usually take Beniconnect from the airport because there’s not a long wait and only a few stops on the Express. The negative taking Beniconnect from Albir to ALC is that they pick you up 3 hours before your flight and you’re there 2+ hours ahead. We never have checked bags, so it’s a long time to sit in the airport. Taking the Tram and Bus from Albir to ALC is faster, even with the long wait at the bus station.

  • ALSA – The L520 bus service runs between Alicante-Elche Airport (ALC) and Benidorm Bus Terminal. The terminal is adjacent to the L9 tram which takes you to l’Alfas, Albir, Altea and several stop on the way to Calp. This is probably the cheapest and most scenic way between the airport and Costa Blanca North.
  • Avanza runs the public bus system on Costa Blanca.

Car Rental Tips

We at Active Albir have lots of experience travelling from Alicante Elche Airport (ALC) to destinations around Costa Blanca. We have found that there is no single best answer for transfers. The cheapest is always taking buses and trams. For a few euros more, you can get there faster, more private and cleaner. Renting a car is always a tricky endeavor. On one occasion, Hertz can be the best price (and service). On another, Centauro or RecordGo can be the best choice. We have found that good cars can be rented for €6-10 per day with a week minimum. Active Albir uses the Shuttle Direct finder (at the top of this page) or Booking.com (usually RecordGo) for car hire. Rental insurance is always best to have a plan with your credit card. American Express has a great deal where you only pay when you rent, and insurance is less than €20 total for up to 45 days of full (yes, everything) coverage.
